FAQ

Everything people ask, answered.

Read this before writing in. It is faster than email and covers nearly every question we receive.

The basics

What does SyncFit do?+

SyncFit reads the Apple Health data you choose and exports it as CSV or JSON to the place you choose: iCloud Drive, Files, your own REST API, a PostgreSQL or SQL Server database, email, or your Mac. Dropbox and Google Drive destinations are coming soon. You can run exports by hand, on a schedule, or when new data arrives. The Mac app turns those exports into dashboards and PDF or HTML reports.

Which devices does it run on?+

iPhone with iOS 17 or later, and Mac with macOS 14 or later. Apple Health only exists on iPhone, so the iPhone app is where data is read. The Mac app reads what the iPhone sends or what already sits in your database.

Do I need the Mac app?+

No. The iPhone app exports on its own. The Mac app adds dashboards, period comparisons, notes and tags, and PDF and HTML reports. It is included in the Pro purchase.

Which metrics are supported?+

Over 190 Apple Health types: heart rate, resting heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, ECG, sleep, steps, distance, energy, exercise and stand time, workouts with routes, body mass, body fat, nutrition, mindfulness, symptoms, state of mind, medications and more. Anything Apple Health records that HealthKit lets third-party apps read.

Does SyncFit write to Apple Health?+

No. SyncFit only asks for read access. It never adds, edits or deletes Apple Health records.

Does it work with Garmin, Fitbit, Oura, Whoop or Withings?+

Yes, through Apple Health. Each of those apps can write its data into Apple Health, and SyncFit reads whatever is there, so watches, rings and scales all come through with the source app named on every row. Turn the sync on in the other app: Garmin Connect → More → Settings → Health; Fitbit → Account → Apple Health; Oura → Settings → Apple Health; Whoop → More → Integrations → Apple Health; Withings → Profile → Apple Health. SyncFit does not connect to those services directly, so nothing else to set up and no extra account.

I already granted access. Why does Connect Apple Health do nothing?+

iOS shows the Health permission sheet only once per app. To change which types SyncFit can read afterwards, open the Health app → your profile picture → Apps → SyncFit. Settings in SyncFit shows a shortcut to the Health app once access has been reviewed.

Privacy and your data

Where does my health data go?+

Only where you send it. Exports are created on your iPhone and delivered directly to the destination you configured. SyncFit has no server that receives your health data, and nothing is uploaded to us.

Can SyncFit see my health data?+

No. Health records stay on your device or travel directly to your destination. The optional account sign-in only stores your purchase state so the Mac app can be unlocked, never health data.

Is there analytics or tracking?+

SyncFit does not include advertising SDKs or third-party analytics. Crash reports go through Apple only if you have opted into sharing them with developers.

How is iCloud used?+

Two ways, both in your own iCloud. Exports to iCloud Drive save into a SyncFit folder in your Drive. Mac sync moves a dataset from iPhone to Mac through the app's private iCloud container. Both stay inside your Apple ID.

What happens when I delete local data?+

Settings → Local storage → Delete all local app data removes saved jobs, connections, credentials, history, imported data and files SyncFit delivered to folders you chose. Files already sent to a database or an API remain where they are. Your Apple Health data is untouched.

Exports and destinations

What formats are available?+

CSV with one row per sample, JSON in the SyncFit schema (version 1), a JSON preview compatible with the Health Auto Export layout, and GPX for workout routes. Databases receive structured rows rather than files.

Which destinations are supported?+

iCloud Drive, Files (any folder on your iPhone or connected cloud), REST API, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, email and Calendar. Dropbox and Google Drive destinations are coming soon; until then, save to a Dropbox or Google Drive folder through the Files destination if that provider’s app is installed.

Why is my export missing days?+

Missing days are not zero values. They usually mean the device recorded nothing, Health access was not granted for that type, or the date range excluded them. Check Settings → Health → SyncFit on your iPhone and the job's date range.

Why don't totals match the Health app exactly?+

Multiple devices can record the same activity. SyncFit keeps one data source per total to avoid double counting, while Apple Health merges sources with its own priority rules. Small differences are expected.

What does incremental export mean?+

Incremental jobs remember where they left off and only send records added since the last run, so nothing is exported twice. Backfill jobs send everything in the date range each time.

How large can an export be?+

There is no fixed limit for files. Very large ranges take longer and use more storage. For REST endpoints and databases, exports are sent in batches you can size in the destination settings.

Can I export to a spreadsheet?+

Yes. Export CSV to iCloud Drive or Files and open it in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets. CSV to iCloud Drive or Files is included free.

Automations

How do scheduled exports work?+

Create a job, then choose Run automatically and a trigger: every few hours, daily, weekly, monthly, when new data arrives, or after a workout. iOS grants background time when it decides, so the exact minute is not guaranteed. Opening the app always catches up.

My automation did not run overnight. Why?+

iOS limits background work for apps you have not used recently, when Low Power Mode is on, or when Background App Refresh is off. Turn on Background App Refresh for SyncFit, keep the phone charged overnight, and open the app occasionally. A reminder job gives you a notification instead if you prefer to run exports by hand.

Can I use Shortcuts?+

Yes, Pro includes Shortcuts actions so you can trigger a saved job from the Shortcuts app or an Automation.

SyncFit for Mac

How does data get to my Mac?+

Either through Mac sync in iPhone Settings, which sends a chosen history window through your own iCloud, or by pointing the Mac app at the same PostgreSQL or SQL Server database your iPhone exports to. You can also open an exported JSON or CSV file directly.

Why does the Mac app ask me to unlock Pro?+

SyncFit for Mac is part of Pro. It is unlocked by the same one-time purchase as the iPhone app. Buy on either device, then sign in with the same account or restore purchases on the other.

What is in a PDF report?+

A cover page with highlights and contents, then one section per metric with summary tiles, a daily chart, a weekly breakdown, a data quality note and optionally a record table. You choose paper size, orientation, accent colour and which sections to include. See the samples page for a real export.

What is the HTML report for?+

A single self-contained file with the same content as the PDF plus interactive, sortable tables and charts that adapt to dark mode. It opens in any browser and prints cleanly. Handy for sharing with a coach or keeping in a notes app.

Can I add my own notes?+

Yes. Notes and tags can be attached to any reading or period on the Mac and included in reports. They are stored locally, or in your database if you enable shared notes.

Purchase, trial and refunds

How much does SyncFit cost?+

Free includes CSV exports to iCloud Drive or Files, the Today dashboard and saved manual jobs. SyncFit Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks everything on iPhone and Mac. The price is shown in the app in your local currency. There is no subscription.

Is there a free trial?+

Yes. Every new install gets three days of Pro features on iPhone so you can try automations, destinations and formats. The Mac app requires the purchase.

I bought on iPhone. How do I unlock the Mac?+

Open SyncFit for Mac and choose Restore purchases while signed into the same Apple ID, or sign in with the same optional SyncFit account you used on iPhone.

Can I get a refund?+

Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com within Apple's refund window. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.

Will Pro ever become a subscription?+

Pro is a one-time purchase. Features you buy stay yours. If we ever add an optional service with ongoing costs, it would be separate and never required for what you already own.

Troubleshooting

SyncFit shows no readings.+

Open the iPhone Settings app → Health → Data Access & Devices → SyncFit and turn on the categories you want. Then pull to refresh on Home. Readings appear only for types that have data in Apple Health.

Connect Apple Health does nothing.+

iOS shows the permission sheet only once per type. If it was dismissed, grant access from Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → SyncFit instead.

A database export fails.+

Use Test connection in the destination editor. It distinguishes connection refused, authentication and schema errors. Confirm the host is reachable from your phone's network, the user can create tables in the syncfit schema, and TLS settings match your server.

The REST endpoint returns an error.+

SyncFit shows the HTTP status it received. 401 or 403 means the bearer token or headers are wrong. 413 means your server rejected the body size; lower the batch size. 5xx and 429 are retried automatically with backoff. See the API documentation for the exact request format.

iCloud Drive export says pending or not found.+

iCloud needs to finish uploading. Open the Files app, check the SyncFit folder, and confirm iCloud Drive is enabled for SyncFit in Settings → Apple ID → iCloud.

The Mac shows fewer days than my iPhone.+

Mac sync sends the history window chosen in iPhone Settings → Mac sync. Increase it to Last year or All available history and send again.
